Retail trade sales, at constant 2008 prices, for the three months ended May 2010 reflected an increase of 3,4% compared with the three months ended May 2009, while sales for the corresponding period in 2009 decreased by 5,0%.
The main contributors to the increase of 3,4% for the three months ended May 2010 compared with the three months ended May 2009 were `Retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods` (8,1% and contributing 1,6 percentage points), `General dealers` (2,2% and contributing 0,8 of a percentage point) and `Retailers in household furniture, appliances and equipment` (15,6% and contributing 0,8 of a percentage point).
Retail trade sales rose by 4,6% in May 2010 compared with May 2009. In May 2010 the highest annual real growth rate was recorded for `Retailers in household furniture, appliances and equipment` (17,7%), followed by `Retailers in pharmaceutical and medical goods, cosmetics and toiletries` (11,3%) and `Retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods` (7,5%).

The main contributors to this increase were `General dealers` (6,0% and contributing 2,3 percentage points) and `Retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods` (9,0% and contributing 1,7 percentage points).
Retail trade sales, at current prices, for May 2010 increased by 6,3% compared with May 2009, while sales for the corresponding period in 2009 increased by 6,9%.

Wholesale trade sales, at constant 2000 prices, for the three months ended May 2010 increased by 1,2% compared with the three months ended May 2009, while sales for the same period in 2009 decreased by 11,8%. Seasonally adjusted wholesale trade sales for the three months ended May 2010 increased by 2,4% compared with the three months ended February 2010.

Wholesale trade sales, at current prices, for the three months ended May 2010 increased by 6,5% compared with the three months ended May 2009. The major contributor to this increase was dealers in `Solid, liquid and gaseous fuels and related products` (29,7% and contributing 4,4 percentage points).
Wholesale trade sales, at current prices, for May 2010 increased by 10,1% compared with May 2009, while sales for the corresponding period in 2009 decreased by 15,9%. Large year-on-year percentage increases were recorded for wholesale trade in `Solid, liquid and gaseous fuels and related products` (37,6%) and `Metals and metal ores` (24,2%) and on a `Fee or contract basis` (23,3%).

Actual motor trade sales estimates
The actual motor trade sales estimates for the three months ended May 2010 increased by 18,0% compared with the three months ended May 2009. Sales for the corresponding period in 2009 decreased by 15,2%.
The major contributors to the increase of 18,0% were `New vehicle sales` (48,5% and contributing 10,7 percentage points) and `Fuel sales` (15,3% and contributing 4,0 percentage points).
In May 2010, motor trade sales increased by 19,9% year-on-year, the sixth consecutive positive annual growth rate recorded since December 2009. Large percentage increases were recorded for `New vehicle sales` (60,2%), `Workshop income` (20,2%) and `Fuel sales` (14,0%).
Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales
Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales for the three months ended May 2010 increased by 5,3% compared with the three months ended February 2010, while sales between April and May 2010 decreased by 2,4%.
