China: Retail sales continue strong growth

Retail sales across China jumped up 18.3% year-on-year to 1.23trn yuan in June, according to the National Bureau of Statistics today, continuing the steady growth seen throughout this year. The report added that sales for the January-June period were up 18.2% to 7.27trn yuan.

During June, sales in urban areas rose 18.7% to 1.07trn yuan, while rural sales were slightly weaker, growing by 15.9% to 161.5bn yuan. Sales in the catering industry grew 17.7% to 140.5bn yuan, while consumer goods saw their sales grow by 18.4% to 1.09trn yuan. Sales of grains, edible oil, beverage, tobacco and alcohol jumped 25.4%, while sales of consumer electronics were up 23.4%.
